About BoatSitters

A family-run boat oversight company serving Charleston and the Lowcountry with consistent, professional care.

Meet The Team

Build on Experience. Run by Family.

BoatSitters is operated by Edmund, a Charleston native whose life has always revolved around the water.

Since childhood, Charleston’s waterways have been my home, my playground, and my peace. I drove my first boat at five years old and was hooked from day one. I took sailing lessons for years at the Charleston Yacht Club and have crewed on multiple J-Boats.

Over the years, I’ve owned vessels ranging from 13’ Boston Whalers to a 37’ Egg Harbor Sportfisher and everything in between. I’ve kept boats at private docks, in my yard, in storage yards, dry stacks, and marinas.

Edmund Hessert- founder of BoatSitters

Through my own experience — and through friends, family, coworkers, and fellow boaters — I’ve seen just about every issue a boat can face. Most of those issues could have been avoided with a proactive approach.

Having had boats on a dock myself, I understand how hard it can be to stay on top of everything — even when your boat is just a few hundred yards away. Small problems get overlooked, and before you know it, they become expensive ones.

That’s what led to BoatSitters.

We Are A Family Run Operation

I work alongside my daughter, Katelyn, who quickly developed a love for the water and boating after moving back to Charleston. She attended James Island Charter High School, where she served as an ROTC commander, and has spent years participating in leadership training programs at The Citadel.

She was also part of the NC State sailing team before returning home to complete her studies at the College of Charleston and continue her education at MUSC.

My son, Ed, will also be part of the business in the future after he finishes exploring the world.

Together, we bring strong work ethic, structure, and dependable oversight to everything we do.

6+ Years in THE Marine Industry

Connected Across the Charleston Marine Industry

As a Lowcountry native with more than six years of experience in the marine industry, Edmund has developed long-standing relationships across Charleston’s boating community. His network includes trusted professionals across every aspect of vessel care, including:

  • Marina service departments
  • Boat yards and storage facilities
  • Marine maintenance & repair professionals
  • Upholstery & canvas specialists
  • Licensed captains
  • Tow services
  • Fuel delivery providers

We have hundred of marine contracts in our network at Boatsittersc. Anything you need to that can’t be facilitated through the Marina, we can handle. And if you need someone to come out to your home or island we can make that happen.

Our Purpose

Why Boatsitters Was Created

Boat ownership in the Lowcountry comes with constant exposure — salt air, storms, humidity, wildlife, and tightening marina standards. After witnessing firsthand the impact of neglected vessels, BoatSitters was created to provide consistent, documented oversight that protects both your investment and your peace of mind.

This isn’t detailing. It isn’t repair work.

It’s structured monitoring and local presence — so problems are identified before they escalate.
